Film Poster Analysis - White Noise

This is the poster for the horror film “White Noise”. I will be looking at various aspects of the poster to see how it attracts its audience.
They use the route of the eye by putting the small insight into the film at the top of the page. They have put this there because it is the first place the audience will look, so they will realise straight away that the film is something to do with portals in audio and video recording devices. They put the most distinct images of people in the second part of the route of the eye because the audience will see this and realise that it has surreal people in it, due to the chromakey around them. In the third line of the route of the eye they have put the title of the film and the tagline ‘the dead are trying to get a hold of you.” This shows that they want the audience to remember the name of the film, as it is the last place they look,  so they will remember it as it’s the last thing they see.  They have also put the tagline there as it is catchy and will make you want to see the film. In the middle of the four hotspots, they have put the predominant image of the person surrounded by the chromakey, as it is the most noticable of all the images, so they have put it where people are bound to look. They have also put the predominant image of the person in the primary optical area, as people always look here and it shows of the main image. In the dead areas they have put the text that says who produced the film and what companies contributed it. They have put this in here because not many people want to read it.
The text they have used at the top of the page explains the basis of the film, as it is to do with audio and video recording devices, and the horror of the film is based on audio and video recording devices. The text is used to give an insight into the film, but also keep the audience guessing about what exactly is in the film. They have used shadow on the title of ‘White Noise’ to give it a dark and scary effect, as shadows are often associated with horror. They have also used chromakey around it to go with the rest of the poster. They have put the tagline underneath the title in a smaller font as it is less important than the title, but they still want people to read it, and it also tries to scare the audience with the words they have used. Underneath this, they have put all the usual details about who is in the film and who the producer and directors are. They have put this there so the audience see it last and remember it. They have also put the release date of the film in this text but with a bigger size font, so it stands out and the audience remember when it is getting released.

The colours they have used on the poster are black, white and blue, which gives the whole poster a chromakey effect. The background is black, to give it a whole eerie effect. The colour black signifies scariness, evil and death, and these are all connotations of a horror film, so the colour works well. They have used blue to give it a chromakey effect, which can be seen as creepy, and with the black background it has been used well to give the poster a scary look. They have put the date of the release of the film in red, so it stands out from the rest of the poster and the audience notice it and remember it.

They have only used one image on the poster, and this is of the silhouettes of people, with the one in the middle more noticeable as it is the more predominant one.  They have used this image because the film is based on a horror of audio and video recording devices, so this image and the way the chromakey is based around the images makes it look as if they are on television or something similar. They also used this because it gives an insight into the film, and attracts to the audience.
